Making the Most of Your New Smile: Porcelain Veneers Aftercare Tips By Charles Antwi on January 13, 2023

You’ve officially done it! After dreaming of a sparkling, uniform smile, you decided to stop waiting. You visited Dr. Gabriel Ketemepi and Dr. Phillip Bayitse at Bethel Dental Clinic for lifelike veneers. Our welcoming team happily answered your questions and ensured you were comfortable and confident throughout the journey.

Now that you’ve left our welcoming Accra, Ghana office with your new veneers, you may be wondering what to do next.

Don’t stress – we’re here to make the process as worry-free as possible. By following these porcelain veneer aftercare tips, you can easily adjust to your beautiful smile.

Eat Soft, Simple Foods

Eating easy-to-chew food after your veneers have been placed can improve any discomfort. It can also protect your new smile. Stick to soft, room-temperature foods like applesauce, mashed potatoes, or yogurt. Talk to our Accra team if you have questions about what to eat and what to avoid.

Continue to Brush and Floss

Some patients may believe that they can avoid brushing their veneers because they no longer have exposed natural teeth. When it's actually best for your oral health to floss once a day and brush your teeth, tongue, and gums twice a day. If you feel discomfort, consider a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth.

Expect Slight Sensitivity

Feeling discomfort and sensitivity around your teeth and gums can be nerve-wracking. For veneers, though, this is often a part of the process. If this feeling lasts longer than a week or is unexpectedly intense, please reach out to our Accra dentists, Dr. Ketemepi and Dr. Bayitse.

Try a Saltwater Rinse

Gum swelling is a routine part of the veneer healing process. If approved by our dentists, you can naturally ease the inflammation with a saltwater rinse. Add a half or a whole teaspoon of salt to warm, filtered water and mix. Test the water’s temperature before you drink it since you should avoid hot drinks after veneer placement. Then, take a sip and swish the water around your mouth for 15-20 seconds. You can temporarily use this method for a few days, not exceeding more than three times a day.

Know When to Contact Us

It’s important when to know what goes beyond routine porcelain veneers aftercare and into a genuine concern. Sensations like excess saliva and trouble talking are normal.
