Root Canal

A root canal infection can result in severe pain and spread to other areas of your mouth, causing widespread damage.

Root canal treatment clears the infection to alleviate pain, save your tooth, and protect your other oral structures.

Bethel Dental Clinic in Accra, Ghana, uses gentle techniques to make root canal treatment as comfortable as possible.

Experiencing Tooth Pain? We Can Help You!

Tooth pain can signal an infection in your root canal, and prompt treatment may be in order. We perform emergency dentistry and can get you in as soon as possible, often on the same day as your phone call. There's no need to wait for an appointment with an endodontist — contact us today for care.

Understanding a Root Canal Infection

The root canal is the passageway that runs through the tooth. The root canal contains the pulp, which is the blood vessels and nerves responsible for keeping the tooth alive. When bacteria make their way into the root canal through a chip, crack, or decayed area, the pulp becomes infected. If you have a root canal infection, you may experience symptoms like:

  • Pain
  • Sensitivity
  • Swollen gums
  • Abscesses or blisters on the gum

Infections threaten your tooth, and if left untreated, will call for a tooth extraction. With timely root canal therapy, Dr. Juned can remove the pulp, clear the infection, prevent more complicated problems, and save your tooth.

Saving Your Tooth With Root Canal Therapy

During root canal therapy, you can expect several steps:
Root canal therapy is a simple and straightforward treatment that can quickly relieve your pain.
Root canal therapy is a simple and straightforward treatment that can quickly relieve your pain.

Prepare

One of our dentists will examine your tooth and take X-rays to determine if there is a concern with your root canal. If there is an infection, root canal therapy will be performed.

Anesthesia

Anesthesia will be administered to thoroughly numb the treatment site before your root canal procedure. We use The Wand® so that even the anesthesia injection is virtually painless.

Clear Infection

Your dentist will make an opening in your tooth to access the root canal. Through this opening, they will remove the pulp and bacteria. They will then clean the root canal.

Fill Tooth

A medication may be applied, and the chamber will be filled with a biocompatible material that protects the root canals from reinfection.

Place Crown

A crown or tooth-colored filling will be placed to reinforce the tooth structure.

Our Crowns Are Durable and Lifelike

After clearing the pulp and infection from your root canal, a crown may be placed. There's no need to worry about your crown standing out from the rest of your smile. We use porcelain to create crowns that blend in seamlessly with surrounding teeth and offer the same kind of functionality as natural enamel.

Preventing Further Infections

Patients who have undergone root canal treatment can prevent further infections by:
Man flossing

Following an At-Home Routine

Brushing twice a day, flossing once a day, and using mouthwash regularly can keep your teeth and crown healthy. It can also help keep the bacteria in your mouth to a minimum, lowering the chances of bacteria entering your root canals again.

Attending Regular Checkups

Dental checkups with Dr. Juned will allow our dentists to examine your mouth for dental concerns before they become serious problems, check on your crown and the health of your treated tooth, and perform X-rays to ensure your root canals are free of infection.

We Care for Entire Families

"During the weekend, my kids and I went for a dental review at Bethel and we were all highly impressed with the professionalism, warm reception and the welcoming ambience at the clinic. The reception/administrative staff and the dentists were very professional. The clinic is child friendly. As we descended the stairs after our review, one of my kids said "mummy, we have to come back here again!".
Kudos to the team!"
